Most dieters are obsessed with calories and forget that quality is what counts. It’s no doubt that weight loss requires a calorie deficit. However, where your calories come from is even more important. For example, 500 calories from turkey breast and veggies are not the same as 500 calories from cake or potato chips. If you want to shed fat, choose whole, natural foods that provide the most nutrients per serving.
The more cardio you do, the better
Too much cardio is just as bad as no exercise at all. Excessive cardio puts your body in a catabolic state, leading to muscle loss. The less muscle you have, the slower your metabolism and the fewer calories you burn. The key to a fit body is to mix aerobic exercises with strength training. Do not exceed 30-40 minutes of cardio per session.
Fats are bad
Contrary to popular belief, you must eat fat to lose fat. This nutrient helps preserve muscle and boosts your energy. It also plays a key role in nutrient absorption and metabolism. However, not all fats are created equal. Your diet should include omega-3s and other healthy fats, such as those found in salmon, tuna, mackerel, avocado, nuts, and seeds. These fats suppress your appetite and aid losing weight while preserving your hard-earned muscle.
