Exercising 20 minutes a day to live longer
Are you looking for a reason to start exercising? Look no further! We have put together a few reasons to why only 20 minutes of exercise a day is extremely crucial to your health.
Research carried out by Cambridge University has shown that exercising 20 minutes a day is incredibly beneficial to your health; it lowers the risk of you getting cancer, diabetes and a handful of other diseases. It doesn’t have to be high intensity exercise such as sprinting or weight lifting, it could just be walking. “Fitness is almost certainly more important than fatness. If you have to choose, choose to be fit, whether you lose weight or not” says Gretchen Reynolds, author of The First 20 Minutes – Surprising Science Reveals How We Can Exercise Better, Train Smarter, Live Longer.
Another benefit to exercising 20 minutes a day is that you will ensure your muscles stay strong and healthy. Failure to look after your muscles could result in serious injury even whilst doing simple things such as carry shopping bags. All it takes to build strong muscles is 20 minutes of low-intensity exercise a day. Along with strengthening your muscles, you will also be happier. Studies show that 20 minutes of exercise increases your endorphin levels and helps relieve stress.
Recent studies have shown that lack of exercise kills twice as many people as obesity, and that walking 20 minutes per day can make you live longer. I think that’s a good reason to get walking!
