Weight loss drug Contrave receives approval in US

A weight loss drug has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), bringing hope to all the people out there who have tried, but not succeeded, in losing those extra pounds.

Called Contrave, the drug was developed by Orexigen Therapeutics and Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited.

The FDA’s Endocrinologic and Metabolic Drugs Advisory Committee voted 13 to seven that research had demonstrated that the potential benefits of Contrave outweigh the potential risks when used on a long-term basis.

“We are pleased with today’s committee vote, an important step on the path to approval for this potential new option for the treatment of obesity and an example of the dedication of the Orexigen-Takeda team,” said Shinji Honda, president and chief executive officer of Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Takeda.

Those who would rather not take diet pills to lose weight and keep it off should try going on a fitness holiday, an expert claimed this week.

Steve Halsall, celebrity fitness trainer and fitness entrepreneur, said that vacations that involve lots of exercise have increased in popularity in recent years.

Would you try Contrave if it was made available in the UK?
