‘Ultimate’ weight loss diet revealed
Researchers from the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Copenhagen claim to have discovered the ultimate weight loss diet.
The scientists state that slimmers must eat lots of proteins with more lean meat, low-fat dairy products and beans and fewer finely-refined starch calories such as white bread and white rice.
They claim that, with this diet, people can also eat until they are full without counting calories and without putting on weight.
One of the other four diets involved in the study that were found to be less effective in helping people to lose weight was a low-protein diet with a high glycemic index (GI), where protein made up 13 per cent of energy consumed.
"The Diogenes study shows that the current dietary recommendations are not optimal for preventing weight gain among overweight people," a summary of the study states.
Helen Heap, nutritional therapist at the Dr Marilyn Glenville Clinic, suggested last month that people who work in jobs that do not require much physical activity should eat a protein-rich diet, as this will help them to avoid gaining weight.
