Top tips on staying healthy at the office Christmas party
With office Christmas parties now in full swing across the country, people who have been slimming this year may be wondering how they can keep their food choices healthy at the annual bash.
Contrary to popular belief, it is possible not to over-indulge, but it may require some preparation.
First, don’t starve yourself all day to compensate for extra calories later. Eat your meals or have your meal replacement shakes as normal so your stomach is not completely empty, or you could end up bingeing in the evening.
Also, if the party food is served as a finger buffet, fill your plate once with things like lean meats and vegetable snacks and then leave the table, rather than staying by it and grazing for the entire night.
At sit-down meals, don’t feel obliged to clear your plate or eat things you aren’t keen on just because they are put in front of you – nobody is going to judge you and you will save on empty calories.
Finally, don’t forget that alcohol is loaded with calories, so choose drinks such as gin and tonics or white wine spritzers that aren’t as bad for you as cocktails and beer.
Of course, you could always try detoxing for a week after your Christmas ‘do!
