Supplements ‘can provide people with key vitamins’
Health supplements might be an option for people who are concerned they are not getting enough vitamins and minerals in their diet, an expert has highlighted.
According to Dr Carrie Ruxton, an independent nutrition advisor to the Health Supplements Information Service, the likes of multivitamins may also prove beneficial to those who have certain dietary demands.
For instance, this may apply to women who are pregnant, the expert highlighted.
However, she feels that it is important that people still strive to follow a balanced diet even if they are making use of supplements.
Dr Ruxton commented: “The role of supplements is to ensure that nutrient targets can be met while people are trying to improve their diets.”
Earlier this year, the NHS Information Centre revealed that only 29 per cent of the country’s female population were getting their five recommended daily fruit and vegetable portions back in 2008.
