Samuel L Jackson has credited his recent weight loss and age defying appearance to a vegan diet.

The 6’2 actor has never been overweight, but he did look noticeably slimmer while promoting his new film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier (right).

He told a Yahoo reporter: “It’s a new vegan diet. I’m just trying to live forever. Trying to finish out my Marvel deal.”

Samuel L. Jackson adopted the vegan diet to look and feel his best after signing a nine-film deal with Marvel Studios to play super-spy Nick Fury.

Other celebrity followers

The 65 year old joins a long list of celebrity vegans, including Bill Clinton, Beyonce and Jay Z, Lea Michele, Jared Leto, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Alicia Silverstone. They have all credited the plant based diet for giving them more energy, helping them lose weight, and keep them looking youthful.

Jared Leto has credited the vegan diet for his age defying good looks. Jared has been a strict vegan more than 20 years, and while he’s actually 42, he could easily pass for ten years younger.

“I’m pretty healthy so I think that helps a lot. Twenty solid years of eating vegan and taking care of myself. That probably helps the preservation process.”

Bill Clinton

Bill Clinton said the vegan diet is responsible for his 30lb weight loss and reversing his heart disease.

His daughter revealed: “His doctor told him that his heart today is much younger than it was even 10 years ago.”

Expert opinions on vegan diets

Improved health and weight loss on a vegan diet isn’t surprising to medical experts like Dr. Joel Fuhrman. “The more greens you eat, the more weight you will lose,” said Fuhrman, author of The End of Dieting.

Dr. David Katz, author of Disease-Proof, agrees. “If you shift to a diet more about plant-based foods, you are likelier to live healthier and experience less chronic disease,” said Katz, director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Centre.
