Losing weight quickly ‘is the best way to achieve lasting results’

The best way of keeping weight off is to lose it quickly in the first place, according to a recent study.

Researchers at the University of Florida studied more than 250 overweight women who were encouraged to reduce their caloric intake and to do more exercise.

They found that those who lost weight quickly tended to shed more fat overall and kept it off for longer compared to those who lost weight gradually.

Dr Jacquie Lavin, head of nutrition and research at Slimming World, said that losing weight quickly can also boost a slimmer’s confidence.

“But, while speed of weight loss can be important, it isn’t nearly as important as making sure that lifestyle changes are sustainable and that means making them realistic enough to be kept up in the long term,” she warned.

Dr Lavin went on to suggest that making gradual changes to how things are cooked, what is shopped for and what is eaten will stop people from feeling deprived all of a sudden and is more effective in maintaining a healthy weight.

How long are you giving yourself to reach your target weight?

I am not sure if I believe this. I believe it to be quite hard to lose weight fast and the secret to keeping the weight off is simple (whether you lose weight fast or slow) – a healthy diet and exercise regularly.

I BELIEVE THIS IS TRUE AS I LOST 1 1/2 STONE WITHIN A MATTER OF MONTHS AND NEARLY A YEAR ON NOW I AM STILL MANAGING TO KEEP IT OFF! FINGERS CROSSED!

I’m giving myself 11 weeks which is the time from now until my holidays in Cyprus. If I can lose 2 pounds each week thats a stone and a half! Have ordered one of your vibration plates to help me tone up at the same time.

I believe this- if you lose weight quickly it will inspire you to keep going. If you working so hard or very strictly eating and you don’t see any weight then it can be very disappointing for many slimmers- which means there most likely to give up on themselves.

I think that if sudden weight loss happens then your more inspired to carry on losing weight. For me, if I was only slowly losing weight I would give up. If I don’t see instant results then I get bored!
