Kate Hudson’s diet and fitness tips

Actress and mum of two Kate Hudson has a very simple list of diet and fitness tips to keep her in shape.

Kate is one of many actresses who’ve turned their hand to being a lifestyle guru in their spare time, and she recently spoke to Self magazine to reveal her never fail fitness secrets.

Break a sweat every day. “Even if it’s just for 20 minutes. I’m very disciplined about that. It doesn’t mean you have to go crazy, even if I’m running with the kids, I feel like I’ve done something.”

She does Pilates twice a week. “I’ve been doing it for 15 years and I think it strengthens from the inside. When your core is strong, everything else starts to lift up.

Exercising with your friends is a good idea. “I love SoulCycle – that’s a way to do something active with my friends. You don’t feel like you’re doing cardio when you’re with your friends.

Do it for the right reason. “If you work out for vanity, you’re going to hit walls that are going to feel really bad. Now, my fitness ambition is internal. It’s about feeling connected to myself.”

Don’t weigh yourself. “After I had Ryder, I was sitting at 150 pounds for weeks, exerting so much of my energy looking at numbers [on the scale] and holding on to stress. The second I forgot about the numbers, my weight started to fall.”

Ignore the supermodels. “I’ve had insecurities. I can look at a picture of Gisele [Bündchen] all day long and say, ‘I’ll never have legs that long or lips that big.’ You have to honour who you are.”

Eat well. “I make sure I eat well without depriving myself of the things that I love: a cheeseburger and fries, creamy white-truffle pasta, bowls of ice cream. Everything in moderation, but I indulge at least three times a week. Usually I aim for 1,800 calories a day.”

Kate uses MyFitnessPal app to keep track. “My friend told me about this app, and then I got obsessed with it, because knowledge is power. I memorised everything, so if anything gets on the table, I literally know how many calories it is. The greatest day of my life was when I realized a small piece of pizza was only 150 calories. I was like, That means I can have three slices for a meal!””
