Exercise ‘can make people look younger’
People who want to not only lose weight but look younger too should take up endurance exercise, a study has suggested.
Researchers from Tel Aviv University's Sackler School of Medicine found that this form of exercise, which can be in the form of a long jog or spinning session, unlocks the stem cells in the body's muscles.
These cells enhance the body's ability to rejuvenate old muscles and the researchers hope that this discovery could lead to a new drug for the elderly and immobilised.
Lead researcher professor Dafna Benayahu said that she and her team hope to better understand the activation codes of muscle stem cells at a molecular level.
"With this advance, we can let ourselves dream about creating a new drug for humans – one that could increase muscle mass and ameliorate the negative effects of ageing," she added.
Earlier in the year, singing teacher Anna-Marie Osborne told the Daily Mail that taking diet pills and losing weight made her look years younger.
Are you tempted to exercise more now that you know it can make you look younger as well as help you to lose weight?
